CLT SCHOOLS
In 2016, the Washington State Legislature introduced a grant program to jump-start the use of Cross-Laminated Timber within the state. Within this program, atelierjones was selected as part of a joint design-build team to design a CLT classroom module that could provide a repeatable model for schools in Washington State.
Working with Graham Construction and NAC Architects, two additions of four classroom modules each were added to existing elementary schools in highly diverse communities outside of Yakima in Eastern Washington: Wapato and Toppenish, WA. These modules provide an example of the kind of robust, regionally-sourced, and low-carbon construction that could help shape the next generation of schools in our region.
